Pregnancy Massage

I always get a lot of questions surrounding pregnancy massage and luckily I have a lot of experience with pre and post natal massage. Pregnancy can be a trying time both physically and emotionally on the mother and massage is a great way to help with all aspects of pregnancy. Massage has countless benefits and including it in your pregnancy is a great way to help get you through. Listed below are just a couple of highlighted benefits.

  • Alleviates stress on weight-bearing joints and musculo-fascial structures

  • Assists in remedying many of the common discomforts experienced during pregnancy: muscular discomforts, leg cramps, sciatica, stiffness, carpal tunnel syndrome and fatigue (to name a few)

  • Soothes and relaxes the nervous system by releasing endorphin's into the mother’s body. As a result, the expectant mother feels more relaxed and at ease, and massage can promote a more restful and deep sleep

  • Assists in maintaining good posture and adjusting to a changing alignment caused by the baby’s increasing weight

What to expect

Pregnancy massage is quite similar to Swedish massage however, the positioning can be different. We start the treatment by discussing areas you would like focused on . Any issues we can address to help aid you along the pregnancy road, we will. In the First Trimester, you are able to be positioned face down and face up safely - although this is not always comfortable for all clients and is not necessary. If you are uncomfortable laying face down (may it be from sensitivity, tenderness or from the baby bump) and as the pregnancy progresses, we will alter the positioning into side-lying. Side lying is exactly as it sounds, we start you with laying on either side. You are given a pillow under your head, a pillow in between your legs/knees and you are given a pillow at mid torso. I will treat one full side (back and legs) and then I will then turn you over onto the other side, repillow you and then treat that full side. After that, you are turned onto your back where we can postion you into a semi reclined position (where your upper body is propped up with pillows so that you are not laying flat - if laying face up is uncomfortable) to treat your arms and neck. And remember, that during treatment only the part of the body I am working on will be uncovered.
